Discover the excitement of rowing with Carolina Masters Rowing’s Row Camp, a three hour introductory rowing experience designed for adults with little or no prior experience. Row Camp offers a welcoming and structured introduction to the sport, combining land based instruction with hands on rowing on the water.

Participants must be 18 years or older and comfortable in the water.

Row Camp is designed to provide a simple and enjoyable experience from the moment you arrive. Our coaches and volunteers will have equipment ready so you can focus on learning and enjoying the sport. Ergometers will be set up for land instruction, boats will be prepared at the dock, and water and light snacks will be available before and after the session.

During the session, participants are introduced to rowing equipment, terminology, safety practices, and the fundamentals of the rowing stroke. The program begins on land with instruction using an ergometer, or erg, where coaches demonstrate proper technique and explain the mechanics of the rowing stroke. This introduction helps participants become comfortable with the movement and vocabulary before heading onto the water.

Following the land instruction, participants move to the dock to row in an eight person sweep boat under the guidance of experienced coaches and coxswains. Participants will practice basic technique and learn how crews work together to move the boat efficiently across the water. Coaches supervise from motorized safety launches that remain nearby throughout the session.

Rowing is a physically active sport, and participants are encouraged to consult with a physician before beginning any new exercise program. If you have questions or concerns about participating, our program director and coaches are happy to help ensure a safe and enjoyable introduction to rowing.
