Carolina Masters Rowing (CMR) offers sweep rowing opportunities for women ages 18 and older. We row out of the UNC boathouse and are proudly affiliated with the UNC Men’s Rowing Team. Our athletes bring a wide range of experience—from recreational rowers to seasoned competitors—and contribute to a supportive, team‑focused environment.

Our Onboarding Process:

At the moment, our program is only able to support experienced rowers. We don’t have the coaching capacity to run a novice group right now, so we’re focusing on athletes who already have a solid rowing foundation. Our goal is to allow transparency and a positive experience for all potential rowers who are interesting in joining our crew.

Three Trial Rows: CMR offers three (3) trial rows to interested rowers with a solid rowing foundation. Once you complete the interest form linked above, a member of the CMR Membership Committee will reach out to set up your first practice.

Probational Membership Period: Following your three (3) trial rows, CMR will determine if you will be offered a one (1) month probationary membership. Probationary members will be responsible for one month fee to join the club.

Official Membership: Once the one (1) month period has elapsed, CMR Team Leaders will determine if an official CMR membership will be offered.

Our Team

The women's sweep team membership consists of a wide range of ages (ranging in age from the early 20s to the late 60s), interests, and availability. Some members of the team train seriously for and attend races, while others have recreational/fitness interests. We work to accommodate the spectrum of interest and availability on the team.

Facilities

CMR rows out of the UNC boathouse located on University Lake, in Chapel Hill, NC. The boathouse has 3 bays housing eights, fours, pairs, doubles, and singles. We share our boathouse with the UNC men's and women's rowing teams.
